In September and October 2013, the City hosted a focus group on issues related to the creation of a vibrant and active downtown. The group consisted of approximately 15 individuals representing various interests – including large and small business owners, developers, arts organizations, and residents. We assembled this group to engage them in a discussion of how the City can foster more activity and interest downtown. We asked the group to discuss the issues and identify possible solutions we could employ through the master plan.
At the first meeting, the group discussed various methods of ensuring that there was activity and interest downtown.
At the second meeting, the group focused on how the master plan could address specific issues. Some of these are highlighted below.
How would you activate downtown, particularly the public realm? What uses and activities should be considered in how we design and plan our city? What does a vibrant and active downtown look like? Is it important to have a downtown that is the cultural center of the region?
